Hawaiian Chocolates

Cocoa is grown, handpicked, sun dried and processed by cacao growers on the Kona Coast. These manufacturers adhere to the highest standards of excellence before sending the cocoa to The Original Hawaiian Chocolate Factory where it is made into pure Hawaiian chocolate.

Traditionally, chocolate is made by blending together cocoa beans from various geographical regions around the world. For this reason, Hawaii was faced with a great challenge: They had to figure out how to produce a chocolate that had excellent flavor, texture and taste while only utilizing cocoa beans that were grown in Hawaii itself. As such, Hawaii was the first place in the world to ever create this type of a chocolate. This is part of what makes Hawaiian chocolate so unique.

In December of 1999 The Original Hawaiian Chocolate Factory was founded to answer to this challenge. At that time, this six-acre farm only had six employees. After the cocoa beans were grown, the chocolate was then made by grinding pure chocolate ìnibsî (from the cocoa beans) into a chocolate liquor paste. This paste is then combined with cocoa butter, sugar and vanilla powder. If milk chocolate is being made, then milk powder will also be added.

The Original Hawaiian Chocolate Factory’s quality production begins with the basic belief that doing something in the right way, for the right reasons and at the right time brings about products that are very satisfying. They also believe that this will also satisfy then and their customers as well. Some of the products that The Original Hawaiian Chocolate factory offers includes one pound, three ounce or five ounce bars of dark chocolate; as well as boxes of bite-sized, plumeria-shaped chocolates. You can find this chocolate in retail shops throughout Hawaii and at a few mainland shops.
